Meet Dr. Mehr

Dr. Mehrdad Mehr has lived in Santa Barbara since 2012, originally coming to work at Cottage Hospital as a Pediatric Intensive Care Physician and Medical Director of the Pediatric ICU.

 

Although he now calls Santa Barbara home, he was born in Tehran, Iran and spent his childhood in Shiraz prior to emigrating to the United States in 1981. He spent his teenage years in Brookline, MA and graduated from Boston University, Cum Laude with a BA in History and Biology.

 

He earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1994 and completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Rhode Island, in 1997. He completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine in 2002 at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

Before moving to Santa Barbara, he worked for 10 years as an attending physician in the Pediatric ICUs of two Boston teaching children's hospitals: The Floating Hospital (affiliated with Tufts Medical Center) and Boston Medical Center (affiliated with Boston University). Academic appointments included:

  • Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Tufts University School of Medicine (2008-2012)

  • Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Boston University School of Medicine (2006-2008)

  • Instructor, Boston University School of Medicine (2004-2006)

  • Instructor, Department of Pediatrics, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (1999-2002)

Dr. Mehr also enjoys contributing his medical expertise to those less fortunate and since 2005 has traveled on eleven two-week Operation Smile assignments in Africa and the Middle East.
