Dr. Mehrdad Mehr has called Santa Barbara home since 2012, when he joined Cottage Hospital as a Pediatric Intensive Care Physician and Medical Director of the Pediatric ICU. After years at the highest levels of academic pediatric medicine, he made a deliberate choice: to build a practice small enough to truly know every family he serves.

Full Biography

A physician shaped by
exceptional training
and genuine compassion

Born in Tehran and raised in Shiraz, Iran, Dr. Mehr emigrated to the United States in 1981 and spent his teenage years in Brookline, Massachusetts. He graduated Cum Laude from Boston University with a BA in History and Biology, before earning his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1994.

He completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island, followed by a Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia — one of the most prestigious pediatric training programs in the world. For a decade, he served as an attending physician in the Pediatric ICUs of two major Boston teaching hospitals: The Floating Hospital at Tufts Medical Center and Boston Medical Center.

Since 2005, Dr. Mehr has traveled on eleven two-week Operation Smile assignments across Africa and the Middle East — volunteering his medical expertise to provide life-changing surgical care to children in underserved communities around the world.
